The Future of PortIgniter LMS Development

I made some deliberate scope cuts for the initial release, and I have more features and options planned post-launch. Here are a few of them:

  • Sign-in buttons for single sign-on. Google, GitHub, Facebook, Keycloak, and Authentik sign-in already work through their own addresses. They’ll get buttons on the sign-in page. See Users & Sign-In.
  • Teams and managers. Group learners into teams, enroll a whole team at once, and give team leads a read-only progress report.
  • Learning paths. An ordered set of courses, such as Linux, then Docker, then Kubernetes, with path-level progress and a certificate.
  • Scheduled release. Unlock modules on a date or a number of days after enrolling, for cohort-based courses.
  • Live sessions. A lesson type for scheduled video calls, with time-zone-aware times, a join link, and an “Add to calendar” file.
  • Course announcements. Messages to everyone enrolled in a course, with an in-app inbox.
  • Search. Full-text search across the lessons and transcripts of your courses.
  • A restore button for deleted items and courses. Today, deleted items and courses are kept on disk and restored by hand. See Management Commands.
  • Refunds from the admin area. Today, refunds are issued in the Stripe Dashboard and synced back automatically.
  • Editable email templates and a “send test email” button.
  • Off-site backups. Send backups straight to S3-compatible storage or another server.
